NESPRESSO / VERTUO

VertuoPlus
Lights & troubleshooting

A red-and-green light calls for descaling. The Plus has its own lever sequence—and a separate step to leave descaling mode.

Check your model first

Confirm “VertuoPlus” or “VertuoPlus Deluxe” on the label or purchase record. Its head opens with a powered lever. A Next-style twist-to-lock handle needs a different guide.

Match the light pattern.

Choose the closest exact match.

Colors and rhythm illustrations are approximate. Use the written pattern and your model’s manual.

VERTUOPLUS · Half red, half green

Descaling is due.

Use the Plus procedure below, including the rinse and the final lever-and-button hold.

Descale the VertuoPlus

VERTUOPLUS · Orange and steady

Special-functions menu.

The orange menu is not the green ready state. Choose only the function you intended to use.

Check the selected procedure

VERTUOPLUS · Orange blinks once every two seconds

Descaling selected, or waiting at a phase boundary.

Whether you have finished the rinse matters. Do not use the exit command to skip a required phase.

Check the rinse and exit steps

VERTUOPLUS · Green and steady

Ready mode.

If coffee will not start, check the tank, capsule and closed head.

Check the brewing setup

VERTUOPLUS · Two flashes, then steady green

Check water and capsule.

The Plus manual identifies an empty water tank or a missing capsule for this pattern.

Check the brewing setup

VERTUOPLUS · A different red or orange pattern

Use the complete manufacturer light guide.

Do not treat all red lights as the red-and-green descaling alert. Confirm the rhythm with Nespresso.

Prepare a support note
Before handling the machine

Let it stop and cool before handling removable parts. Never open the casing or force a capsule mechanism. If there is damage, a burning smell or leakage near electrical parts, stop using it and contact the manufacturer.

Nespresso VertuoPlus

Descale the VertuoPlus

For VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe with a powered lever. These steps do not apply to the Vertuo Next.

Allow about 20 minutes plus a 10-minute rest. Complete the rinse before using the exit command.

Follow the descaler’s safety label. Keep solution away from eyes, skin, children and food surfaces. Keep hands clear of hot water and steam.

Before you start

One unit of Nespresso descaling liquid, at least 0.5 L / 17 fl oz water, fresh rinse water and a container of at least 0.8 L / 27 fl oz.

What to look for

Look for steady green after the complete rinse and exit. A remaining red-and-green alert belongs with Nespresso support, not repeated factory resets.

A normal water-only cleaning cycle does not perform the descaling sequence. If you rinsed but are still in the orange menu, check the final exit step.

Check the manufacturer’s instructions

Nespresso VertuoPlus

Clean with fresh water

For VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe with a powered lever. These steps do not apply to the Vertuo Next.

This clears the machine through its cleaning cycle. It does not remove the need to descale when the red-and-green alert appears.

Wait for the machine to stop before opening the head. Keep hands clear of the outlet and capsule chamber.

What to look for

If the cycle does not finish or the signal differs, check the official machine assistance page.

Check the manufacturer’s instructions

Nespresso VertuoPlus

Ready light, but no coffee

For VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe with a powered lever. These steps do not apply to the Vertuo Next.

These checks apply while the machine is idle, outside a maintenance cycle.

Wait for the machine to stop before opening the head. Keep hands clear of the outlet and capsule chamber.

What to look for

If the machine returns to a warning pattern, match that pattern or use manufacturer support.

Cleaning and descaling questions

Why is the light still orange after rinsing?

On the Plus, completing the rinse and leaving descaling mode are separate steps. Once the full rinse has ended, hold the button and lever down together for three seconds.

Why not follow the Next instructions?

The Next uses a lock–unlock sequence. The Plus selects a special function with its lever. The names sound similar, but the controls change the procedure.

Contact Nespresso support

Have the model, light pattern, last completed step and whether water flows ready. A short video can help describe the rhythm.
