NESPRESSO / VERTUO

Vertuo Next
Lights & troubleshooting

Two orange flashes and a pause signal an error. Orange alternating with white is a descaling alert. Check the pattern below before choosing a procedure.

Check your model first

Look for “Vertuo Next” on your machine label or purchase record. The Next has a handle that turns left to lock. These instructions do not cover Pop, Plus, Up or Original machines.

Match the light pattern.

Choose the closest exact match.

Colors and rhythm illustrations are approximate. Use the written pattern and your model’s manual.

VERTUO NEXT · Two orange flashes, then a pause

An error signal. The checks depend on what you were doing.

For coffee: check a fresh, undamaged capsule, the locked handle and water. During maintenance: no capsule, handle locked. Choose the procedure you were running and review the phase you reached; do not start over automatically. Do not open a running machine.

VERTUO NEXT · Orange and white, then steady

The machine is asking for descaling.

This alert is different from a continuous orange maintenance light. Complete the descale and rinse sequence.

Open the descaling checklist

VERTUO NEXT · Orange blinking twice a second

Cleaning mode.

If you started cleaning and water is flowing, this is an operating signal. If you did not start it, use manufacturer support before changing modes.

VERTUO NEXT · Orange blinking three times a second

Descaling or emptying mode.

Identify which procedure you started. During descaling, finish the rinse; unplugging is not a substitute for completing it.

Check the descaling sequence

VERTUO NEXT · Orange on longer than off

The water tank is empty.

Refill and seat the tank. Check the handle is locked before trying again.

Check the water and lock

VERTUO NEXT · Orange slowly fades out

Cooling after use.

Let the machine cool. The manual allows approximately 20 minutes after extensive use.

See what to do if it will not brew

VERTUO NEXT · White and steady

Ready mode.

A ready light does not confirm that water, a capsule and the handle are all in place.

Check why coffee is not flowing

VERTUO NEXT · My light is different

Do not guess a button sequence.

Record a short video of the light and confirm the model before contacting Nespresso.

Prepare a support note
Before handling the machine

Let it stop and cool before handling removable parts. Never open the casing or force a capsule mechanism. If there is damage, a burning smell or leakage near electrical parts, stop using it and contact the manufacturer.

Nespresso Vertuo Next

Two orange flashes, or no coffee

For Vertuo Next only. Pop, Plus, Up and Original machines need their own instructions.

Use these checks for an idle machine when you are trying to make coffee. If cleaning or descaling is already underway, return to that procedure instead of retrying a brew.

Wait for the machine to stop before opening the head. Keep hands clear of the outlet and capsule chamber.

What to look for

Normal coffee flow is the useful result. If the light changes, match the new pattern before taking another action.

Descale the Vertuo Next

For Vertuo Next only. Pop, Plus, Up and Original machines need their own instructions.

Set aside about 20 minutes, plus a 10-minute rest. Read the whole entry sequence first: the lock–unlock and second button hold must fit within 45 seconds.

Follow the descaler’s safety label. Keep solution away from eyes, skin, children and food surfaces. Keep hands clear of hot water and steam.

Before you start

Nespresso descaling solution (one packet), 0.5 L / 17 fl oz water, fresh rinse water and a container holding at least 1 L / 34 fl oz.

What to look for

A completed rinse and steady button mark the end. If the light keeps blinking, use the official support guide; do not brew through leftover descaler.

If the timed entry fails, restart from the ready state before running solution. During an active descale, complete both phases; do not use a factory reset to skip the rinse.

Check the manufacturer’s instructions

Nespresso Vertuo Next

Run a water-only cleaning cycle

For Vertuo Next only. Pop, Plus, Up and Original machines need their own instructions.

Use fresh drinking water, with no capsule or descaler. This rinse does not replace descaling.

Wait for the machine to stop before opening the head. Keep hands clear of the outlet and capsule chamber.

What to look for

If no water appears or the cycle will not finish, use Nespresso support. Do not insert tools into the capsule chamber.

Cleaning and descaling questions

Does every orange light mean descale?

No. Count the flashes and note whether they repeat, fade, or alternate with white. Cleaning, descaling, an empty tank and an error have different signals.

Can I use a VertuoPlus button sequence?

No. The Plus uses a powered lever and a different special-functions menu. Confirm the model before starting.

Contact Nespresso support

Have the model, light pattern, last completed step and whether water flows ready. A short video can help describe the rhythm.
